iBet: Two fillies to follow at Ascot
Royal Ascot, Friday
Back Joyeuse (2.30) and Just The Judge (3.45) in two singles and an each way double
In the first race of the day, The Albany, two horses who are already vying for favouritism for next year’s 1,000 Guineas go head-to-head over six furlongs. Richard Fahey’s Sandiva is already an impressive winner of a Listed race at Naas, but the one that catches my eye is Joyeuse. Raced only once, she is a half sister to Frankel and trainer Henry Cecil had already earmarked this race before she made such an eye-catching debut at Lingfield.
At 11/4 I’d be putting her in an each way double with Just The Judge, who I think has a decent chance of reversing the form with Sky Lantern in the Coronation Stakes, which puts the top three-year-old fillies head to head. Charles Hills’ horse was beaten fair and square by Sky Lantern in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket but seemed to have taken big strides forward when readily taking the Irish equivalent at The Curragh on good to firm going. One to watch in this race at 8/1 is Pavlosk, who has a two-from-two record and has been supplemented for £25,000 by Michael Stoute, not something he does lightly.
Milos Raonic, John Isner and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are vying for favouritism at around the 3/1 mark for who will deliver the fastest serve at Wimbledon, which starts on Monday.
