iBet: Rosler and Donaldson can get the Bees buzzing again
League One, Outright Market
Back Brentford each way at 9/1
Back Clayton Donaldson (Brentford) each way on the League One top goalscorer market at 18/1
Wolves go down into League One with a Championship side and a huge wage bill for this level to match, and many are seeing them as sure things to capture the title and go straight back up. They have been backed into 4/1 and although they have a fine manager in Kenny Jackett it’s a ridiculously short price when you realise that no favourite has won in this market for 18 years!
They may oblige, but from a betting perspective we have to look for an each way price elsewhere and I like the look of Brentford, whose were unbelievably unlucky not to gain automatic promotion on the last day of the season, and whose play-off curse struck for a remarkable seventh time against Yeovil at Wembley in May.
I’m thinking it will make them even more determined and I really like the way their manager Uwe Rosler goes about his business. He has been clever in the loan market in the summer bringing in players from Everton, Chelsea and Viktoria Plzen as well as making five new signings. Rosler has kept his key midfielders Diagouraga and Douglas together, plus top scorer Donaldson. And he has added a cutting edge to the attack with the acquisition of Will Grigg, who scored 19 goals for Walsall last season. Brentford finished third last season, four points off automatic promotion and two clear of Yeovil, who eventually went up. They are progressing every year under Rosler – 67 points in his first year and 79 in his second, and look stronger still this year.
Sheffield United are 5/6 with Betfair Sportsbook to beat Notts County in tonight’s season curtain raiser live on Sky Sports 1. If you fancy the away side you can get 7/2, with the best price on the draw 5/2. Lyle Taylor, Chris Porter, Jamie Murphy, Diago de Girolamo and Febian Brandy are all vying for favouritism in the first goalscorer market at around 6/1.
