iBet: Betting tight for Capital One Cup curtain raiser
Capital One Cup
Preston v Blackpool, kick off 7.45pm, live Sky Sports 1
Lay over 3.5 goals with Betfair
The betting could hardly be tighter for this Capital One Cup curtain raiser with League One Preston 7/4, Championship side Blackpool 7/5 and the draw 9/4. Preston got off to a solid enough start to their league campaign on Saturday, holding title favourites Wolves to 0-0 draw at Deepdale.
Preston are a team with plenty of striking options and they have been strengthened further with the signing of Kevin Davies in the summer. Simon Grayson has also acquired the services of Tom Clarke from Huddersfield, Chris Humphrey from Motherwell and Declan Rudd from Norwich. Youngsters given the chance last season now have a year of experience under their belts and Preston (14/1 with Betfair Sportsbook for the title and 4/1 for promotion) are not without a chance of getting in the League One shake-up, especially given that the manager has already led Blackpool, Leeds and Huddersfield to promotion from the division.
Blackpool had a poor 2012 season finishing 15th, and have been tipped by a few judges to be relegated from the Championship. However, manager Paul Ince will be delighted with his team’s opening game when they scored two late goals to win at Doncaster. Three of their last five games went over Betfair’s 3.5 goals line but before that they played in 20 competitive games in a row with less than four goals. Preston’s last 15 competitive games have all featured under 3.5 goals. I have no team news at the time of writing so be careful with your bets as it’s possible one of the managers may field a weakened team. But it might be worth chancing that there are less than four goals in the game.
In the outright betting for the Capital One Cup, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are vying for favouritism at 7/1. There are some tasty prices elsewhere including last year’s winners Swansea at 50/1 and improving Aston Villa at 40/1.
