iBet: Super Mario Could Be The Game Changer For Milan
Italian Serie A Outright Market
Back Milan at 6.4 with Betfair
Last season I tipped up Napoli at an each way price for Serie A, and they had a great season, finishing a clear second to Juventus. Napoli have once again signalled their intent with the capture of Arsenal target Higuain from Real Madrid. But there is a suspicion they might have overpaid for him and it’s quite possible that he simply won’t adequately replace their goalscoring linchpin Edinson Cavani, who heads to Paris for an eye watering £50 million plus.
Juventus won the league pretty easily in the end, with nine points to spare, and they go off the 5/6 favourites to do so again. But I fancy the value might lie with Milan. There is talk at Juventus of targeting the Champions League as their main priority in the coming season, after they were pretty much dismantled by Bayern Munich in the quarter finals.
Then there is the Mario Balotelli factor. You can understand why Roberto Mancini kept backing Balotelli – he may be a bunch of trouble but he is without question a world class striker. He got off to a great start when he joined Milan mid-season and if gets a full season in and avoids the red cards, he could be the difference in a league that is no longer blessed with all that many game changers. Series A kicks off this weekend and with 5/1 available in the fixed odds market this looks and each way bet to nothing. It could also be a ‘back to lay’ bet at 6/4 with Betfair, with an eye to taking some profits if Milan get off to a good start and shrink in price.
Stoke were the worst disciplined club in the Premier League last season, and under their new manager Mark Hughes they go off at 4/1 to be so again, with Newcastle the 7/2 favourites now following their red card against Manchester City at the weekend. It’s 7/1 Cardiff and West Ham, 9/1 Crystal Palace and Sunderland and 10/1 Aston Villa and West Brom. Arsenal also racked up the card count in their first fixture, but they are 40/1 in this market.
