iBet: Tromso May Concentrate On Trying To Stay Up

Europa League, Group K

Tromso v Sheriff Tiraspol, kick off 6pm

Lay Tromso at 2.6 with Betfair

Swansea like to play the possession game and European football seems to suit them. The also have a manager who is sure to give the competition a go. Michael Laudrup has put together a quality squad of technically gifted players and there is almost no danger of relegation fight. But at the same time he knows he’s not going to be competing for a top four place in the Premier League and that cup competitions represent the best chance of glory.

Swansea were mightily impressive at Valencia in their first Group A clash last time out in the Europa League and easyodds.com has the best price about them beating St Gallen tonight at 9/20 with the away side 15/2 with Coral, and the draw around 7/2. But the Swiss side should not be dismissed too easily. They also won their first group game 2-0 against Kubin and are on a 12-match unbeaten run.

Strikingly, they also knocked out Spartak Moscow over two legs, winning 4-2 in Russia, so they are dangerous. Spurs are away at Russian side Anzhi and are another English club that could go very deep into the competition, as they effectively have two first teams these days. Indeed they are the 8/1 favourites in the outright betting, while Swansea are third in the market at 25/1 with Fiorentina splitting them at 14s – Ladbrokes offer the best price in all three cases.

The North Londonders are one to two on to win away from home with the home side 6/1 and the draw 7/2. Five of Tottenham’s six away games in the competition saw both teams score and easyodds.com have that eventuality at even money. Anzhi, who have had to make major cut-backs and are a really struggling domestically this season with no wins in 11, have drawn seven of their 12 matches this season. But you have to fancy that Spurs will be too strong. Wigan opened their account with a bore draw but might fancy their chances tonight against Slovenian opponents who have not won in five European fixtures and who sacked their manager at the weekend. They are best priced 8/13 to secure maximum points with Paddy Power.

Advices
Away from the English teams but in Tottenham’s group, there could be value in backing against Tromso, who are in the middle of a relegation battle with five games to go in the Norwegian league and may well rest key players as a result. Their opponents are Moldovan table toppers Sheriff, who drew 0-0 with Anzhi in their first Group K match. They are in great form domestically, winning eight on the bounce. I’ll be laying the home side on value grounds.
