iBet: Brighton are having a disappointing season
Brighton V Watford, kick off 7.45pm, Sky Sports 1
Lay Brighton at 2.74 with Betfair
Watford lost by the odd goal against free-scoring Derby in their last game but they bossed the possession and the ‘shot on goal’ stats in that game. They seem to be going through a ‘win one, lose one’ spell in The Championship but they certainly carry a goal threat and indeed only Derby have scored more than the 24 Zola’s men have notched in their 12 games.
They are just outside the play-off picture – nine places above Brighton, who are having a largely disappointing season as their new manager gets to grips with things. Oscar Garcia’s side have won only one of their last eight games (against fourth from bottom Bolton) and only three all season, and look too short in the betting to me at 13/8.
They are struggling in front of goal and have failed to trouble the scorer in three of their last seven fixtures. They are scoring at less than a goal a game and what really puts me off having a bet on goals is that they have been in involved in three 0-0s already this season. Despite Watford’s scoring record, that brings a draw (12/5) into the picture here and I would sooner be laying the home side at 2.74 on the exchanges than backing Watford at 19/10 with Boylesports, who offer the best price about the away side.
A three-goal salvo from Liverpool’s Luis Suarez at the weekend has seen him backed to win the Premier League Golden Boot and he’s not a best priced 100/30 with Ladbrokes, with Robin Van Persie out to 5/1, Sergio Aguero 13/2 (SkyBet) and our pre-season pick Daniel Sturridge, who still leads the way with eight goals, 7/1. Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud is 12/1, Romelu Lukaku 14/1 with 888Sport and Roberto Soldado 20/1 with Bet365 and Coral.
