iBet: Aguero Showing World Class Form
Champions League, Group D
Manchester City V Shakhtar Donestsk, kick off 7.45pm
Back Sergio Aguero to score at any time at 8/11
Shakhtar have lost to Inter and Lille in qualification this season and to Man City and Bayern in the Group stage proper, and you can see why bookmakers have them as big as 15/1 to win at the Etihad, despite City’s slightly questionable record in this competition.
Pellegrini’s men seem to be a completely different beast at home compared to on their travels, as they demonstrated again at the weekend with a 7-0 demolition job on Norwich.
By all accounts it could easily have been more. When City get it right, as they also did when they beat Manchester United 4-1, they look world beaters. Indeed they have the best attack in the Premier League by a mile – 28 goals from just ten games. The problem from a betting point of view is a tendency not to put two excellent performances together in a row. They followed up that magnificent performance against the Champions with a 2-3 loss at Aston Villa, who are themselves the second worst side at home in the division. That was assisted by another Keystone Cops moment between Joe Hart and his defensive line and the England keeper will be left out again tonight.
My first instinct here was to back City to win on the handicap, but we can only 4/7 with them giving up a goal start, and the -2 handicap with which we can get 5/4 (Ladbrokes) is too risky in my view because of the danger of the away side scoring as they did in the reverse fixture in October. In fact it’s hard to find a working man’s price anywhere with the sky blues 1/5 on to win the game.
It’s 2/1 (again with Ladbrokes) that there will be a penalty in the game but I’d rather be putting money on Sergio Aguero to score at any time at an albeit not too generous 8/11 with Boylesports. Aguero looks on fire at the moment and following another at the weekend he’s now joint top of the Premier League Golden Boot charts with eight. He scored twice when City came from behind to win 2-1 in Moscow and will fancy his chances again. I would keep stakes under control tonight.
There are better betting opportunities tomorrow in my opinion.
Ladbrokes initially went 2/1 that Joe Hart would not play another game for Manchester City in November after he was dropped for the Norwich game. That looked big to me at the time given that we have a break coming up and there are only four fixtures remaining. Manager Pellegrini has already indicated he won’t be playing tonight and is on record as saying that he needs to work very hard to regain his place – and there is a strong feeling that he believes Hart needs some time out of the spotlight to regain his confidence. Hart is however long odds on to start for England in their first World Cup game in Brazil.
