What The Chancellor Said And What He Meant: A Correction

John Rentoul

Further to my What He Said And What He Meant on George Osborne’s Autumn Statement, I need to amend this bit.

What he said:

I can announce that next year we will provide 30,000 more student places … The new loans will be financed by selling the old student loan book.

What he meant:

I can announce that next year we will provide 30,000 more student places … The new loans will not be financed by selling the old student loan book.

Easy mistake to make.
