60% of estate agents say it is twice as hard to sell homes at Christmas
The Move with Us survey also revealed that 23% feel that it is three times more difficult than in normal conditions and 12% that it is four times harder.
Property valuations up by a third
Valuations activity has grown by one third over the last year, according to chartered surveyors Connells Survey & Valuation. The fastest annual growth was in remortgaging activity, up by 65% since November 2012. Remortgaging has also increased on a monthly basis, up by 1% since October.
Half of all adult homeowners keep a weapon in their home to protect themselves against intruders
The survey by security firm ADT shows homewoners would use heavy torches, baseball bats and walking sticks in case of emergency. Other ‘weapons’ include umbrellas, golf clubs, frying pans and rolling pins.
One in 10 leave their front door unlocked at night
The poll for Sainsbury’s Bank also suggests that in the last year almost a quarter have left their home unoccupied with windows open, 9% admitted to leaving a front door key ‘hidden’ somewhere outside their home, and a further 9% have left conservatory doors unlocked at night or while the house was unoccupied. The research also reveals that 15% of households have given three or more sets of keys to people who do not live in their home, such as neighbours and cleaners.
Half of landlords are uneasy about making immigration checks on tenants
The Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA) research also shows that one in five landlords did not know if they would be able to make the checks. Only 23% said they did feel confident in their ability to conduct the checks.
