Ibet: European Cup competitions latest betting
Chelsea have been given an unlikely chance of another Champions League night of glory by avoiding the two big guns in the semi final draw, although the bookies still make their rivals slight favourites to qualify with Atletico Madrid 4/5 to make the final and Chelsea at even money. It was certainly Jose Mourinho’s favoured draw, but his team are the 9/2 outsiders for the competition with Bayern Munich 6/4, their semi final rivals Real Madrid 5/2 and Atletico at 7/2. It’s going to be no easy task for Chelsea as Atletico have become such experts at keeping teams out that at the time of writing they still lead La Liga in Spain and look genuine contenders to hold on. It could all go down to their last game against Barcelona on May 18th, and they have proved time and time again that they know how to play the Catalan giants this season, and did so once more on Wednesday in shutting them out to knock them out of the Champions League.
In Chelsea’s favour is that Mourinho likes to play that kind of game too, and next Tuesday’s first let has all the makings of a tight encounter, especially with Atletico’s star striker Costa injured. Chelsea are best priced 7/2 (Coral) to win the first leg in Spain with the draw 5/2 and Atletico 21/20 (Paddy Power. At those prices Chelsea look a professional lay bet to me (4.4 with Betfair) as they would be absolutely delighted to come away with a draw. It’s 4/7 that there will be under 2.5 goals.
The other semi final pits two of the best attacking teams in Europe head to head and there will surely be goals. Once again Coral offers the best price about the away win, going 21/20 about a Bayern Munich victory. Real Madrid are best priced 6/4 (Stan James) with the draw 5/2 and the Germans 4/6 to qualify for the final compared to 5/4 about Real Madrid (Ladbrokes). It’s around 4/6 that there will be over 2.5 goals. Madrid have been starting like a house on fire at home of late but of course they don’t play the European champions every week. They will certainly need Ronaldo back for this. Here at Ibet we recommended backing both Madrids back in December at 9/2 (Real Madrid) and 16/1 (Atletico). There is a chance that both could contest the final – but of course there’s also still a chance that neither will.
Meanwhile in Europe’s second tier cup competition Juventus are 11/10 favourites to claim another continental title after drawing Benfica in the semi final with the first leg away from home, and that looks bet material to me. The final takes place in their stadium and they have been taking the competition seriously since being dumped out of the Champions League. Sevilla are best priced 9/2 with Benfica at 4/1 and Valencia available at 11/2.Tagged in: Atletico Madrid, bayern munich, Champions League, Chelsea FC, José Mourinho, Juventus, real madrid
