Kylie Minogue performs at Brighton Pride

Kylie Minogue performed a triumphant show at Brighton Pride on Saturday (3 August), where she celebrated gay marriage during a performance of “Especially for You”.

The song is synonymous with the 1987 wedding scene in Australian soap Neighbours when Minogue’s character Charlene married Scott, played by Jason Donovan.

Her rendition also followed the soap’s plotline last year where a gay wedding took place for the first time in the show’s history, to mark the historic same-sex marriage legislation in Australia.

During her performance – which attracted a similar-sized crowd to Britney Spear’s headline performance last year – Kylie told fans she was “overwhelmed” by the welcome and announced a toast to “health, happiness and love”.

She then told fans how the “wonderful day” was a time for reflection as well as celebration.

The setlist, which involved five costume changes, included crowd favourites such as “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”, “Spinning Around”, “Loco-Motion” and “I Should Be So Lucky”.

The performance comes after Kylie's triumphant set at Glastonbury festival in June, which saw her return 13 years after being forced to cancel a 2005 headline show after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
