Lily Allen to record Keane song for John Lewis Christmas advert 2013
The singer will cover Keane's 2004 song 'Somewhere Only We Know'
Lily Allen is set to sing the soundtrack to this year’s John Lewis Christmas TV advertisement, according to reports.
The department store’s Christmas adverts, which help usher in the festive shopping season, are renowned for bringing a tear to the eye.
According to Music Week, Allen will be singing a cover of Keane’s 2004 single “Somewhere Only We Know”, although alternative tracks have been considered.
Last year, the John Lewis team used Gabrielle Aplin’s haunting cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Power of Love”. Her version became an Official UK number one single following the popularity of the advert, which saw two snowmen lovingly reunited after a long separation.
In 2010, Ellie Goulding covered Elton John’s classic “Your Song” for the John Lewis advert, helping her version climb to number two in the charts.
Annie Lennox was reportedly considered to lend her vocals to the John Lewis Christmas 2013 campaign before Allen was chosen. PJ Harvey is also said to have been approached by the creative team behind the advert.
Allen, who retired from the music industry in 2009, confirmed she would be making a comeback this August.
She told her followers on Twitter: “I’m coming back b*****s”. She is reported to be releasing a new album in March 2014.
