Gavin Perkins

Gavin Perkins is Professor of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Warwick. He is an Honorary Consultant Physician at Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust where he works as a critical care doctors and chairs the Trust Resuscitation Committee. He is Chairman of the Resuscitation Council (UK) Advanced Life Support Committee and Co-Director of Research for the Intensive Care Foundation.

Do Not Resuscitate Orders: When hospital CPR should not be used

The issue of resuscitation was recently brought to the fore, following the case of a man with Down’s Syndrome, who was issued with a Do Not Resuscitate order without consent from either himself or his family. The case throws up some interesting questions, particularly the circumstances under which a do not resuscitate decision might be considered.
