No disrespect to James Graham, a young prop whose whole approach to the game I admire more than I can say, but my choice as Man of Steel would have been Keiron Cunningham.
Not only has he been at the heart of all Saints' success so far this season, but I've always felt that the award should reflect the cumulative contribution of a player.
There hasn't been a more important figure than Keiron in the 13 seasons of Super League, so it seems bizarre that he's never won the big prize.
As Graham himself said this week: 'he's reinvented the way you play hooker'.
That's something that was never better illustrated than by Tony Rea on Sky, showing how the angle of his body gives him a better view of what's in front of him than any other hooker in the game.
Maybe next year will be the one, because he has signed a new 12-month contract with his only club. And, if that goes well, don't be surprised if he stays on for another.
Cunningham, of course, is one of the reasons Saints are such hot favourites on Saturday.
I wouldn't disagree with them being favourites, but I'll be wanting to see whether Brent Webb is fully fit for Leeds. If he is, he's the one player who could really upset the calculations.
