As the race for the White House heats up, America’s satirists have also been raising their game in time for the presidential primaries, which begin in January. The editors of The Onion, responsible for such headlines as “Columbine Jocks Safely Resume Bullying” and “Loved Ones Recall Local Man’s Cowardly Battle With Cancer”, have started their own online news channel, dealing with the issues at the forefront of voters' minds.
Meanwhile, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart finally launched its own website last week, featuring an archive of clips going back to Stewart’s first appearance as anchor in 1999. Stewart’s friend and Comedy Central colleague Stephen Colbert is running for President, as he announced on his Daily Show interview. Colbert was the man who roasted President Bush at last year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner with this very funny but not-for-the-faint-of-heart speech.
Colbert’s presidential campaign has generated a Facebook group, 1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T Colbert, whose administrator claims it is the fastest growing group in Facebook history. Now, just over a week after Colbert announced, the group had already welcomed its 860,000th member.
