Greenpeace has created a new website dedicated to exposing the eco-sins of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo and encouraging gamers to contact the big three about improving their codes of practise. According to Greenpeace, consoles contain toxic chemicals and can contribute to the growth of electronic waste that's often dumped, causing widespread environmental pollution and health problems for unprotected workers. It hopes to make major electronics manufacturers clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances and take back and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.
Also on the site is a 90 second video in which characters from each of the manufacturers compete for a greener games console. As Greenpeace states 'In games, everybody wants to save the world. But back here on planet Earth, your favourite games console contains deadly agents of real destruction.' Time to make gaming a less mindless activity.

Do you think this is a good idea, or is demonising gamers' beloved consoles just going to give them the hump with all sorts of green activities?

No, I think it's good to act now. Young people are often the most open to green ideas.
