The Gutter Sniper: Brit Awards - the good, the bad & the ugly
Anyone who actually watched last night's awards will have rapidly become aware of three things:
1. Quality music was not a priority. (Take That anyone? Leona Lewis? Foo Fighters?)
2. Drunkenness was.
3. The clothes were awesome. In every sense of the word. Both awe-inspiringly good & eye-wateringly hideous, with not much in between.
So let's focus on number three. Props to Amy Winehouse and so-called "British Male Artist" Mark Ronson. Amy looked adorable in tartan and leopardskin - something that very few could manage - while Ronson worked a cool blue suit.
Leona Lewis, on the other hand, looked like she'd caught the last train out of Disneyland in her vomitous purple ball gown. And she was barefoot. I know right? Where's her hygiene? For more, check out our gallery bellow:
The Good
Amy Winehouse:
Beyond perfect. The antithesis of a Hollyoaks girl. And so Autumn-Winter '08. Already!
Kylie Minogue:
Small, pretty, sexy. Just lovely.
Mark Ronson:
Camp yet sexy, flamboyant but slick. Just so... cool.
Alexa Chung:
She may go to the opening of an envelope but, style-wise, she can do no wrong.
The Bad
Holly Willoughby: Against all odds, she's managed to make a simple, modestly cut dress look entirely inelegant. A feat so great it almost deserves admiration. Almost.
The Arctic Monkeys:
Come on boys, no one's that talented.
Take That:
Same for you. In fact you're definitely not that talented.
...And the very, very ugly
Leona Lewis:
Possibly the worst dress in the history of musical entertainment. Not even Barbie would wear this. Not even in the eighties. And bare feet? Blame Joss Stone.
Sean Lennon:
Who does he think he is? John Lennon?
Kate Nash:
As my mum said: "What is that? Did her mother make it for her?" Harsh, but so true.
Carrie and David Grant:
Whoa! Pin stripes and white shoes? White nylon and metallic bra? There's so much to hate here we don't know which to go for first.

Leona looked stunning, you morons
she was robbed
Posted by: Moreen | Friday, 22 February 2008 at 12:49 PM
I had no idea that lilac eye shadow and plum ball gowns had such a following.

Leona is wearing a bespoke purple gown by Roberto Cavalli!!! and its one of the most beautiful dresses ive ever seen..How the hell is she the worst dressed?? You morons know nothing of fahion, vogue is raving about this dress. Amy winehouse looks like big hot mess. You know nothing of glamor.
Posted by: fashionlover | Friday, 22 February 2008 at 12:59 PM
what do you expect when men review fashion? that dress is amazing and leona was best dressed. Kate nash is a crap no talent, and leona should of won at least something.

Men? Who said anything about men?

Award-winning aside, Leona had a great evening with her performance, which is regularly commented on in other blogs as one of the best, not only of the night, but ever. Her dresses on the red carpet and stage were also very nice adding a touch of glamour to the proceedings. She will get her due awards overseas where she is not shackled by her association with UK talent shows in general and Simon Cowell in particular. As a result, the self-appointed "cool people" of the UK's music business are afraid to admit to her talent or even give her a chance. She is their guilty secret.

Leona looked gorgeous in that dress. It takes a special kind of beauty to pull it off and Leona has that in abundance. Not to mention that was tailored especially for her by one of the best designers around. I'm not sure what planet you're on when you call that the worse dress. It matched her flawless performance perfectly.

Had Adele entered and appeared on, for example, the X-factor, there is no way she would have won the "Critic's Choice" award. She would be the same singer, but rendered severely uncool by association according to these same critics. That is how predictable the Brit night has become.

Are you people bonkers? That purple monstrosity is the most ludicrous outfit you'll see outside of Bjork's wardrobe. Just cos it's made by Cavalli doesn't mean its not overblown tat.
It's not the first time Leona has turned out dressed like a dog's dinner, either. She might be beautiful; she might even have a modicum of talent, but it's time she sacked her stylist. And wore some shoes.

What!? Are you kidding me!?
Worst dress in the history of musical entertainment!?
Leona was easily the best dressed of the night and was totally robbed of her awards.

your talking about leonas hygiene and then you put amy winehouse at the top? haha thats laughable. I like amys a- tire however, i also love that dress leonas wearing- its a show dress, what do you expect?? its not a red carpet dress.. you didn't put leonas lovely black corset dress that she wore on the red carpet for people to judge unlike other blogs have, whereas you put all the other stars red carpet outfits up and not their 'show outfits'..thats kind of biased if you ask me. I think your just biased coz your an indie snob and dont like her. mmmmm.
Posted by: angela | Friday, 22 February 2008 at 03:16 PM
^contiuned. Why dont you put kylies space girl show outfit up and put her under very very ugly category as well?.. seems only fair.
Posted by: anglea | Friday, 22 February 2008 at 03:20 PM
What's wrong with bare feet? True a nice pair of purple shoes would've pulled the dress off, but if you seriously think feet crammed into a pair of tight shoes, prone to sweaty stinkiness and over-proliferated bacteria especially after strutting around stage is more hygenic then you're seriously not very bright. Everytime I look at Amy Whinehouse I can't stop thinking she needs a bath, like EVERYTIME. Leona's dress was magical, pristine and elegant. Everyone else looked cheap, trashy and BORING. But like someone else mentioned, your comment has no credibility since it's in an indie blog, therefore biased anyway.

It's a shame you are of that opinion because Fashion Industry bible Vogue seems to think her dresses were a "fashion triumph" ;) They're right!

Oh puh-lease. Vogue's got to mention Cavalli - his ads pay their bills.
Anyone who think that dress was a good idea is seriously misguided. Or related, perhaps?
Posted by: The Gutter Sniper | Friday, 22 February 2008 at 06:51 PM
Leona looked like Hyacinth Bucket's loo roll cover...I despair of anybody defending that monstrosity of a dress!
Glamour is not a by-word for big hair and bigger dress contrary to what many wildly confused people still think (it's 2008 not 1988 and you're not 6-years-old). By that definition Dolly Parton would epitomise the word 'glamour' and...well...she just doesn't (although by the sounds of things perhaps you guys would think she does!?)
Leona's dress was as transparently overblown, over-hyped and unoriginal as her music is. Oh and just because a dress is by Roberto Cavalli doesn't mean it's faultless - remember he's designed several for the Spice Girls tour...

John, get off your pedastool would you, do you not understand that dress is a SHOW dress not a red carpet or formal dress, like someone already pointed out this is an unfair comparison. ANYWAY, vogue know abit more about fashion that this blog and they LOVE that dress and have leona lewis as best dressed- http://www.vogue.co.uk/vogue_daily/story/story.asp?stid=50842
unless your gay, what do you know about women fashion anyway, i suspect not a lot, like i said this is a 'show dress' and it fitted in with the whole drama of the performance- ITS the brits FGS, its supposed to be OTT, look at mikas performance for example.
Posted by: ally | Saturday, 23 February 2008 at 07:22 PM
puh-lease gutter sniper, vogue doesn't have to endorse it, they dont even have to mention it in their article if they dont want to, they uphold fashion at the end of the day. Im going to value their opinion on this one i think.
Posted by: ally | Saturday, 23 February 2008 at 07:27 PM
Vogue uphold fashion? Hilarious. You obviously have no idea how the money world of fashion works? Leona looked bananas and everybody knows it.
When will the world realise Ronson is a sham?
Posted by: Biffo | Saturday, 23 February 2008 at 07:41 PM
Leona best dressed of the night and best performance.
The Brits are a Joke and now everyone in world knows it.

Who ARE these people?
Does Simon Cowell have soooo much money?Or influence? Because it sure ain't their own opinion......
is it?
Posted by: Caro | Saturday, 23 February 2008 at 09:42 PM
Jees, these guys are so sexist! Gay? A man? Do we know?
Leona looked crap - cheap, out of date and trashy.Just like her mentor.....
Maybe these experts at vogue are male? gay? or whatever your current predjudice is?
Also just like her mentor, perhaps....

You obviously had nothing nice to say about anyone. Makes me laugh though, pick on the truley talented, as their records sell far more than the useless indie ones.

LL is a good singer but her dress was rubbish. She looked very 80's but in a bad way.
