Wild Wild Web: Brand Next
I've just put together an article in today's paper about some of the online brands of the future. Wolff Olins, the branding agency behind the London 2012 logo (which, it's fair to say, divided opinion), identified 10 next generation brands for an exhibition at their London HQ, which they plan to take to New York.
Among the ten were Streetcar, Current TV, One Laptop per Child, MacMillan Cancer Support and Fairtrade. But we picked the ones we hadn't heard of already to write about, all of which are internet-based. I spoke to some of the guys behind the brands:
- There's Zopa, which gives a whole new meaning to 'personal banking'.
- World66, or Wikipedia for travellers.
- Lulu, a DIY publishing house.
- OpenMoko, creators of the first open source mobile phone handset (more exciting than it sounds, I promise...)
- And my favourite, Bookmooch, the online book exchange.

You hadn't heard of Lulu before? Shurely shome mishtake?

How about The Friday Project which is doing great things integrating the blogosphere and interweb in general with mainstream publishing?

Er, Hobgoblin, aren't they about to go out of business?
