There I was sitting at the bar of the usually excellent Sushi-Hiro in Ealing Common, waiting for my sushi. And waiting. Thirty minutes later, the chef explained they had run out of rice. RUN OUT OF RICE??? It’s a SUSHI bar. They only DO fish and rice.
At least they hadn’t run out of their superbly fresh fish, so I changed to sashimi instead. (Not the same: I feel as if I am eating my way through whole schools of fish just to get enough to eat, which makes me feel guilty).
But I’ll keep going back in spite of the trauma, because the salmon
nigiri is great, the tamago (omelette) nigiri is the lightest and
freshest in town, and the fatty tuna is superb. And because unlike most
highly rated sushi bars in the UK, it is actually affordable.

I went to Leon recently and was similarly shocked when the waitress came back and announced they had run out of salad. As it bills itself as a healthy eating fast food place, I find that almost as bad as running out of rice in a Japanese restaurant. She said they'd "had a bit of a rush on".
A similar shortage of salad in McDonalds the other evening at about 6.30pm (I was trying to feel better about ordering filet o fish) prompted me to ask what time I'd have to have come for them not to have run out.
Guy in Mcdonalds: "Well we don't usually order many. Well in fact we don't really order any. The manager only puts one on the order list usually, because people don't eat them." !
So basically, my local McDonalds, whose whole public food stance is that "we serve healthy salads now too", don't actually STOCK the salads they advertise. Hmmmm.....

I went to a new burger bar in Chelsea and waited over an hour for my burger. Then I saw the chef walk in the door carrying a supermarket bag full of hamburger buns. My burger turned up very soon after.
