2008 marks the ten year anniversary of BAFTA's video games awards. So how will the British Academy of Film and Television Arts be celebrating a decade of rewarding the best games in the business? By failing to hold this year's ceremony, of course.
According to industry bible MCV,
the reason for this disappointing decision is that the show is too
close to the Christmas period, a time when every games publisher,
developer and retailer is scrabbling for big scale seasonal sales. This
bun fight, they say, leaves little time for industry insiders to submit
game code to be judged.
The next award ceremony will take place in March 2009 - quite a while to wait for anyone keen to find out what the cream of this year's gaming crop will be.
