Ok, so: Sarah Jessica Parker's dress. It's green. Very green. And her hat looks like a pot plant. And yes on first sight we too were tempted to follow the lead of one voluble editor and scream "what the fuck is she wearing?"
But you know what? Ten seconds later we'd fallen in love. Because - damn it - this is what Carrie Bradshaw is all about. She's pretty and whimsical and ridiculous and adorable. Remember when she wore a milkmaid's outfit?
In fact that's what the whole show was about; suddenly it's flooding back. Sure, we've done our fair share of SATC-bashing (and rightly so - there's a lot to dislike what with all the inane narration, soul-searching singledom and name-tag necklaces). But watching the red carpet rotating and reading the coverage... Dammit, we're excited!
As our Comment pages ask today: Where else can you see four smart career women dominating the silver screen?
And so to the rest: The crowd was almost entirely female - with the notable exception of, uh, Nelly (more on this later). And you know what? They all looked great in their pretty party dresses and sparkling stilettos. We're in the mood for generosity: we'll even include Alex Curran and her tacky fluro arrangement. It's like that bit in Mean Girls - right at the end, when Lindsay Lohan brings the whole school together, the cool kids and dorky kids standing side by side. Except instead of kids, it's the cast of Heat magazine. B-list alongside A-list, all looking pretty. Heartwarming, no?
Below are some of our faves. Think of it as a "good bad and ugly", minus the bad and ugly...
