Cyclotherapy: Bike crash TV

By Simon Usborne

I was horrified to glance up at Sky News yesterday and see this crash, which took place during the Tour of Switzerland on Wednesday.

The footage shows Luxembourg rider Frank Schleck overshooting a tight bend. He unclips his shoes before he's catapulted over the crash barrier. The end of his career? His life? His race, surely? Not so - watch to the end. No wonder he's kissing that crucifix as he crosses the line.

...gawd, it only takes one-tenth of a split second of not paying attention to put you THAT much off-track, doesn't it? No wonder descents scare so many novice riders; they see incidents like that and think, "If a pro can come that close to doing himself in, there is NO way that I can do that.........."

I seen Ulrich do something similiar a few years ago in the Tour, along with a Spanish rider in the Vuelta. I think there is somebody protecting us all, that we come away from "offs" like that, I really do, and long may it continue.

Huh? The video is not clear enough to see what happened and how he got back over.

the chopper shot cuts in just as he is helped back over the barrier - you see him standing between it and the support car as oen of his team grabs a new bike from the roof
