A Nice Green Leaf: The Big Green Leaf is coming

Dscf0693_2jpegBy Emma Townshend

I didn't call this blog "A Nice Green Leaf" for nothing. Apart from my great admiration for the work and ethical message of Eric Carle, just like the Hungry Caterpillar, I absolutely love a nice green leaf.

Blue, red and pink in the garden (especially pink) can entertain me for a second, but looking at all the different greens I'm growing can almost hypnotise me into a greater state of calm. So when it came to Bloom Day this month, I felt a bit of regret that there was no room for my lovely green leaves in the show.

I know there are other people out there who'd love to share the great greenness of the world, so I'm asking you to join me on the halfway point of the year, 30 June, in posting A Big Green Leaf.

Either put up pictures of your best foliage combinations, wow us with your giantest leaf, or delight us with a technologically advanced slideshow showing the general verdancy of your plot. We don't mind. We just want to enjoy your greenery the same way you get to do every day.

When you have your post done, please put the details here in a comment, and I'll start organising to let other garden bloggers know that we are going to have this little event. Hopefully it'll be a fun way to address the balance a bit in favour of calm, collected, utterly soothing, surprisingly varied, deliciously shady, photosynthetically-significant, beautiful green.

Excellent count me in!

I'll post today to help spread the word too :-D

Fab idea - will get snapping.

What a good idea! I've stuck up some of my favourite leaf/frond photos:

Great idea, I'm totally up for it.

Today's second coincidence Emma - I've been out taking photos this morning in anticipation of your event!

This is so great! I can't believe you are all up for it. Even if it is just us it will be great.

I'll try to post for it, too.

Great I will be there
Although most of my leaves are coloured - will they count
Regards
Karen

I'm in! Shirls Gardenwatch gave me an invite.

Sounds like a great idea. I'd love to participate!

This sounds like fun. Shirl let me in on it. Thanks.

Okay, my post is now up. Thanks for this, Emma.

This sounds like fun but since I am not techno advanced it will be just pictures! Nice to meet you Emma!

excellent idea!

I'm happy to have found your blog (via Frances and Shirl) and excited to post to your "green challenge". :) Mine is up (early) at: http://nancybond.blogspot.com/2008/06/leaves-of-green.html

Ill get some nice green leaf pics tomorrow.

Hurray! I'm going to try and get round and see all the early ones today - but now I'm off out to take my own pics while there are still long shadows and a bit of early morning sunshine.

Count me in - it's a great idea. As long as the rain doesn't completely batter all the foliage into the ground. It's very verdant in the garden at the moment.

Fantastic idea - I was just giving myself a kick to remember to do the flowery one on the 15th next month but now I get to do my luvverly leaves too (can you tell I'm right with you on this one)

must finish this bit of work I'm putting off right now and then will go out snapping :D

Triffic idea and how bizarre, gmta and all that, I had done a post for Wordless Wednesday next week called 'Texture' based on a dozen or so photos I took of various green leaves at West Green. Even next weeks 'Monday Musing' is related to Grass!

I think all our eyes must be needing a rest hence the green fest!

I'll do my best to join in and add a post too.

Regards,

Zoë

What a wonderfully good idea and you can count me in...it's the in between time in my garden and the greens have surely been feeling unappreciated!

My leaves are washing their faces and combing their hair in anticipation of the photo shoot. I reminded them to keep the makeup to a minimum, but Brunnera macrophylla 'Jack Frost' insisted on using that silver eye shadow.

Good afternoon Emma!

You can probably see that I was busy last night passing the word around. I used Blotanical which is a great place for garden blogs.

Great to see you've had lots of interest. I picked many of the sites that I knew and ones that had lots of foliage :-D

Have a great weekend :-D

Talk about coincidences, I just posted about my Clematis leaves. I found out about this from Frances at Faire Garden. Here's the link to my post: http://mcgregorsdaughter.blogspot.com/2008/06/beauty-beyond-blooms.html This is such a neat idea!

Hi Emma, I found your "green" idea at Shirls blog. It sounds like a great idea to me especially since there is so much green in my garden. I have a post up now if you would like to take a look. http://greenbowgardens.blogspot.com/

I do a Sunday Bug Sarafri with another blogging friend but I think I could do both! Bugs and leaves...wonderful idea. I learned of your adventure from Lisa at Greenbow.
I have a love affair with leaves.
Nice to meet you too.
Sherry

What a great idea, as a fan of green in the garden, I'll see what I can do as well on the 30th

It's there! But you knew that and have sneaked in a lovely comment already :)

I couldn't resist playing around with Greensleeves - it just had to be done ;)

Shirl has been doing a great job of publicising this - and I'm really pleased to join in. As I was taking the photos a storm started up, and there was too much movement to go on with still shots. So it turned into a video ...

I posted my favorite shades of green. Hope you love the a fraction as much as I do.

I've joined in! All of my greenery are veggies. And I've learnt to do a slideshow.

OK, mine's up. I was going to wait until tomorrow but so many people posted theirs, I felt a bit daft waiting any longer! It's at www.victoriasbackyard.co.uk, or click on my name below

Hi Emma.
"The big green leaf" is up on my blog.
So sorry to be a day early but v.busy tomorrow and have not tried to do "publishing on a particular day" yet.

This is a great idea! I wasn't going to do a post, but after seeing several on this topic, thought I'd join in the fun. My greens can be found at www.prairierosesgarden.blogspot.com

Hiya Emma,
Having finally emerged after months of green, I am going to stay red this week.
So anyone wanting a change, can rejoice in the bright colours of the Scarlet Tiger Moth I found in my garden yesterday, sitting on a nice green comfrey leaf ;-) (Its favourite food) next to my first red rose.

I love the idea. I'll work on a green post and let you know. Will it be monthly, I wonder?~~Dee
