Who doesn’t love flat peaches? This charming new addition to the peach family is actually a charming old addition, descended from the flat peaches of China. I’ve seen them over the last few years in Italy, France and Spain, and in dribs and drabs here in the UK. This summer, however, they have taken off like the flying saucers they resemble and are popping up in supermarkets and greengrocers everywhere.
And what’s not to like? The creamy white flesh has a clear, honey-sweet
flavour, and their unusual shape makes them easy to eat in the hand –
and no doubt helps them travel without bruising as well.
Flat
peaches are variously called Peento, Paraguayas, or saucer peaches,
although UK supermarkets have regrettably adopted the American name and
called them donut peaches, as if the only way they can talk us into
buying a piece of fresh fruit is to liken it to a sugary iced
confection. They combine perfectly with English cherries, whose season
they share.

They are here in the shops in our village in Macau in abundance! And they are lovely.
cheers!

I am very lucky as we have a very old family run fruit and veg shop in our market town, The owner of the shop in question introduced me to flat peaches some weeks ago, The taste and texture are amazing and as a result of this I have bought very many over the last few weeks, all of which i have enjoyed.
