A recent New York Times article highlights a fairly handy little website called "Down for everyone or just me?"
if you can't access for example, BBC's iPlayer, you can find out whether it's a problem affecting the whole of the internet or just you (presumably because those friendly neighbours you are letting freeload on your broadband connection are downloading movies and slowing everything down). Type the offending web address into the browser on "Down for everyone..." and it will quickly give you the answer. Either that or you could just keep hitting refresh on the problem website and shout at the computer. Or is that just me?
