Who knew - in the old days they used to give out Olympic gold medals for art. Sport has inspired plenty of painters - most notably those charged with creating Olympic posters - but I'm not sure this effort by Liverpool artist Lee Jones will go down as a classic...
Jones was inspired by Victoria Pendleton's heroic efforts at the Laoshan Velodrome to turn the cyclist's memorable Observer Sport Monthly cover shoot into a fantasy work that "touches on the traditions of the ancient Olympics as a celebration of the human body, but also reaches into the future as sport becomes ever more sophisticated." Hmm. What do we think?

Fantastic. I suggest you get it tattoed prominently on your body.
