As reported today, Lance Armstrong is planning a return to cycling to challenge for the 2009 Tour de France - he retired from the sport in 2005. This may seem like mere rumour mongering on a slow news day but Armstrong made his intentions clear in the latest issue of Vanity Fair and has now backed it up with this video on his website:
So is Armstrong - who will almost be 38 by the time the Tour rolls around - still be up to the task? Will this provide more grist for the mill of those who have claimed he is a drug cheat? Will his endless array of celebrity girlfriends be willing to take a back seat while he returns to serious training?

Exciting news about Armstrong returning to cycling. Exciting given his stated aims to raise the profile of cancer. It could be interesting to see if super rich athletes can actually have an impact? Or will it merely become another vehicle for corporate America? I hope Lance is true to his promise and perhaps we will see super rich athletes actually turn their profile into real agents of change.
Of course none of this has anything to do with the events on the road, and I suspect he will be overmatched against the likes of Contador et al.

Good luck, it will be another incredible adventure on Mr. Armstrong's journey through life.
I wonder how much he could raise if other more highly paid sports professionals each donated significant amounts to his cause?
