There will be lean times ahead, so it might pay to fatten up now if you wish to survive. As seen on the news, London's Green Door Bar and Grill is putting on a special "Polar Explorer's Menu" to commemorate the Matrix Shackleton Centenary Expedition. The four course menu guarantees to deliver six thousand calories - the same amount the original Shackleton Arctic expedition members stacked away every day to keep functioning properly in the freezing cold.
Now, 100 years later, six descendants of the original team are attempting the very same trek on 9 October, using much the same methods, a similar diet, and even the original compass.
For £75 per person, you can have what they're having, more or less, starting with pork scratchings and a sweet chilli dip with a bottle of Stella Artois, and going on to hoosh, a hearty stew made with goose substituted instead the original penguin, and another bottle of Stella Artois. Next (deep breath) comes the main course: a 20 oz (560g) Aberdeen Angus ribeye steak on the bone with cauliflower gratin, mushrooms and creamed spinach, French fries and a 250 ml glass of red wine. Dessert is chocolate fondant with 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream, with a coconut-vanilla ice-cream shake.
In the first week the menu was on offer, the restaurant had 18 takers, with only one "slight-looking chap" giving up and walking out after the very first course. Restaurant spokesperson Nia Wyn Jones says all those up for the challenge so far have been male. "I've noticed a very competitive nature among the local bankers here in Cornhill," she says. "We're even thinking of making it a permanent feature on our menu as a challenge to them."
What? They don't have enough challenges at the moment? If they had any sense, every banker in the City would trek to the North Pole themselves and stay there until the recession is over. But then, if they had any sense…
The £75 Polar Explorer's Menu will be available until the team reaches the Pole, expected to be January 17, 2009. £10 from every meal goes to the Shackleton Foundation. The Green Door Bar and Grill, 33 Cornhill, London EC3 Tel: 020 7929 1378. www.greendoorsteakhouse.co.uk

There have not been conclusive studies in the event of taking Avodart [Dutasteride] in the presence of hepatic failure or renal failure. This drug is highly metabolized in the liver and advisable to be avoided in hepatic failure.
