Few musicians can match Brazilian disco-rockers CSS for their style and enthusiasm. Tonight they're headlining the Xbox MyGig event at KOKO in Camden, the line up of which was chosen by competition winner Francesca Peters, with support from Florence and the Machine and The Mules. Before the gig I had a quick chat with CSS's lead singer Lovefoxxx (pictured).
How's the tour going?
Really well. We just played in Mexico and America. It
was our first first time in Mexico and it was mind-blowing, and America was
a good tour because it's been a long time since we were last there. We
played with Tilly and the Wall and SSION, who were both great. Mexico is a bit like Brazil because there is not much of a music market
or many venues. We did just two shows, so not many like Brazil. But it's good not to overtour places. England, America and Europe are
amazing places to play because they have so much energy, but America can be really
tiring. We just
played at Shepherd's Bush Empire two days ago and I think it was the
best show in London ever.
Are you writing or performing any new material right now?
No, we're just concentrating on putting all of our energies into the
show. Next year, after this tour, we're gonna take a break before we do
any more writing because otherwise you just write about touring and
tequilas.
Your outfits are legendary. Where do you get them from?
My friend Peggy Nolan; she's amazing. I met her through the girls from Tilly and the Wall
and she makes clothes for me. They sometimes collaborate on designs. She is very quick
and happy and she's American, from Kansas City, Missouri . She has a store.
Have you met Francesca [who chose the lineup for tonight's gig]?
Francesca is very excited, but she's also calm. She's not freaking out like a Japanese girl.
What do you think of tonight's support bands [Florence and the Machine and The Mules]?
I've not seen them, but I've heard them, and they're really
great. I've watched Florence and the Machine on YouTube; I just heard
her soundcheck and she has fantastic energy.
