So America uses the democratisation of the social technology to elect Barack Obama. Meanwhile Britain uses the social technology to bring back a chocolate bar.

Here is how Obama used Conversion Rate Optimization to maximize online donations.

In an amazing bit of sleuthing, Chris Goward blogs on how the Obama campaign successfully used a Conversion Rate Optimization strategy to maximize online donations.

Regardless of politics, Obama is a man who knows how to build a brand by using new technology. You've got to admire his skill.

"The internet, through its interactive technology, has contributed to giving millions of Americans a new sense of ownership and emotional involvement with "... the President (whoever he or she is), in my opinion.

What Obama has done is shown the masses that there IS a way to make their voices heard on all sorts of issues. In future, highly controlled and fake political personas will be so much more difficult for contenders to create, as their every move (and mistake) is highlighted on the internet. I also think, given Obama's success in raising private donations, America now has the chance to be governed in future by someone who is not a multi-millionaire from a long-established family name, but by someone who is passionate about their country. That's all to the good, and I think Lincoln would have approved.

Hopefully the same brand-building skills that got Obama such a wide base of support will translate to real skills in his presidency--unifying people and being in touch...And hopefully this 'new media' will help make politics more relevant (or rather bring people in more direct contact with the aspects relevant to them as individuals).

Dr. Tantillo, who has a marketing and branding blog ( http://blog.marketingdoctor.tv ), did a recent post on president-elect Obama, and how it will be essential (and difficult) for him to preserve the integrity of his brand. http://blog.marketingdoctor.tv/2008/11/09/brand-winners-barack-obama--retail.aspx
