The Real McCain

By Michael Savage

John McCain may be finding it a little harder than anticipated to cross the line in the race to be the Republican's choice for President, but he is winning friends on this side of the Atlantic. In today's Independent, Tory front bencher Alan Duncan has been won over by the 71 year old. Others, though, warn voters not to forget McCain's hawkish position on Iraq and enthusiasm for the 'surge' policy:

.

In his interview today, Alan Duncan, said:

"For the last 10 years or so I have been a Tory Democrat. But John McCain would once again make me a happy Republican."

Duncan's support for McCain is surely a further sign that he could attract broad enough support to have a chance of beating Clinton or even Obama in a run off. Obama has been championing his electability in his latest round of primary wins.

As for McCain's supposed hawkish views on support for the US military, his status as an ex-military man makes that more complicated. His position on the war is that it needs to be fought fully in order to work - hence his loud support fro Gen Petreaus' surge policy in Iraq. The same logic might suggest that he would have done a more thorough job in the first place when planning the Iraq invasion.

The video-clip is terrifyingly accurate. McCain is a madman, bent on invoking Armageddon. What is not clear from the current stage of the US elections is that the vast majority of Americans support all-out nuclear war with the rest of the world's nations. Most of them would favour nuking France, for example. Why Britain seeks to befriend Yosimite Sam and his chums remains a mystery.
