This most gripping of Brazilian title races,until a few weeks ago, at least, ended not with a bang but a whimper on Sunday, as Fluminense beat Palmeiras 3-2 to clinch the 2012 Brasileirão.

Roma? Small fry. Sevilla? Mere minnows. Spurs, Juventus, Athletic Bilbao and Everton? Also-rans. At least compared to Santa Cruz FC, currently residing in Serie C of the Brasileiräo.
