Almost a year ago to the day I met Robert James at WMC in Miami. I was already aware of who he was and what he did – as a member of the Hot Creations crew, he’d had numerous releases via Jamie Jones’ popular label and its subsiduries and he’d also been travelling the world as one of the crew’s main DJs. Miguel Campbell may have risen to fame quite recently, but he’s been dedicated to his sound for a long time now. Having been toiling away on his productions for eight years, he has remained loyal to a heavily funk and disco-influenced sound even though he was often scorned for it when he first started. Now one of the shining lights at Hot Creations as well as running his own successful label, Outcross Recordings. I sat down for a chat with him to get the lowdown on his recent goings-on.

About a year ago to the day I downloaded a mix by techno don Steve Bug recorded live at the Mulletover Halloween party that took place last October. In that mix were a few tracks that caught my ear, one in particular was called Pure Liquid by a man called M A N I K.
