Inspire a generation
If the Olympics were designed to inspire a generation of athletic heroes, then the Paralympics could achieve something equally profound.
Since the dawn of the millennium, we’ve seen reality television spread like wildfire. Fortunately, these last two weeks have seen a different kind of role model come to the forefront of national media. That of Olympic athletes.
At the height of Olympic fever, it’s all well and good to say that children should be doing more sport and that state schools should add more hours of PE into the curriculum, but I think we are overegging the pudding, here.
The opening ceremony marked the start of a two-week period in which everything good has inevitably resulted from the Olympics and anything bad has been the fault of the Coalition.
I can imagine the country’s top marketing executives sitting round a room, scribbling on white boards, brainstorming, word-associating and doing other things with ‘ing’ on the end.
