Urban guru and mainstay Radio 1 DJ, Mistajam, has been pushing the artful sounds of dubstep and the like to a mainstream audience for some years now. Here, he talks about his collaboration with Snoop Dogg, the possibility of a US grime breakthrough and his personal imprint, Speakerbox.
MistaJam looks relaxed and excited. He slouches on a sofa, dressed in baggy jeans and a casual black t-shirt, overlooking the West End of London from the BBC Radio 1Xtra studio. It’s 6.30 in the evening and in thirty minutes, he will broadcast on national radio. It was only last month his radio shows were rewarded with Sony Radio Awards.
BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra DJ, MistaJam’s double Sony Radio Award nomination was always a matter of when not if and sees his services to breaking up and coming artists recognised on the biggest radio stage of them all.
