Passing the flame on the GB way
The lowest point of the Olympics so far came in the BBC studio. No, it wasn’t Colin Jackson and Denise Lewis leaping around, screaming, and cheering Mo Farah to victory. It was the moment when Gabby Logan dangled the imaginary carrot of an appearance on Strictly Come Dancing in front of Rebecca Adlington.

Azad Al-Barazi: Swimming for Syria
A Californian surfer was among the more unlikely athletes being sworn into Syria’s team at the Olympic Village today. Swimmer Azad Al-Barazi is more accustomed to the sunny beaches of Santa Monica than the warring streets of Damascus, but he was one of 10 athletes at the country’s official welcoming ceremony this afternoon.
