Arriving hot on the heels of the release of Thor: The Dark World, this week’s episode presents another crossover with wider events in the Marvel universe.
Two steps forward, 10 steps back. That’s not a description of the series’ progress, much like episode four, this week’s dose of Marvel espionage is entertaining stuff, but rather it is a reflection of how good a job Skye does in this episode of losing all her hard-earned brownie points.
After three weeks and three explosive missions it seems as if the various strands that define Agents of Shield (a mixture of soap opera, blockbuster action and Marvel mythology) are starting to come together quite nicely.
This week’s mission/‘team building’ exercise on Shield involves a trip into the Peruvian jungle, a potentially life-threatening (but pretty) weapon everyone wants to get their hands on, and a mutiny at 30,000 feet. Coulson’s only just got back from ‘Tahiti’, but by the end of the episode I’m guessing he could use another getaway.
What do you get when you cross a mysterious, supernatural law enforcement agency, a resurrected, wisecracking field agent, a blob of poop (or possibly a porcupine – the jury’s still out on that one) with a lavish budget? The answer is Agents of Shield.
