'We're Americans and we'll never surrender. They will'
John McCain's new video panders to the hokiest American stereotypes about Britain in the Second World War. He dredges up footage of Winston Churchill's stiff-upper-lip sound-bites matching him word for word.
Churchill: "We shall never surrender."
McCain: "We're Americans and we’ll never surrender. They will."
Quite what the flickering black and whites propaganda images of Churchill are meant to do for McCain is anybody's guess.

McCain is insane.
The real test will be when he chooses a running-mate. Will it be someone more mainstream to add balance? Or will it be another hawkish madman like himself? His grasp of world politics is nil, and similarly he knows zilch about the economy - optimally his running-mate ought to know about these things? Or at least have *some* residual credibility?
What Britain *ought* to be saying, loud and clear, is that if America elects this crazy, then American can FORGET about any support from Britain... you are on your OWN, you no longer have any allies left.
But will Fat Gordie have the guts? I very much doubt it. The man is as spineless as he's clueless, and would follow McCain into war with Iran without even giving it a second thought :(

Is it just me or does this film try and convey that it is America that's being oppressed? You'd have to be completely mind-warped to be persuaded by this rubbish. There can be absolutely no comparisons made between defending against a Nazi invasion and the illegal war for oil that's currently going on in Iraq!! Continuing with the war and occupation will only propagate more violence and create more extremists!! Americans must vote for change.... for the sake of all of us!!

The very last clip was from the 70's and in it the little girl in the field gets nucked. It was part of the red menace scare. These people are seriously ill...

"I owe America more than she has ever owed me."
He nicks a bit of Kennedy in it too.
And what was the bit with Teddy Roosevelt I ask myself?
Answer: The flickering images are part of a pattern.
McCain is the only man in the arena so far. So he can be anyone he wants to be.
He and the RNC are still living in the 20th century. Somehow, the US has never quite managed a Churchill in the Blitz.
9/11 was immediately compared to the Day of Infamy, but both Bush and Gulliani were compared to Churchill, not FDR.
So, what's next?
Next Ad Up; "Everyone is out to get us!"
