Barr is a famously irascible former Republican, with little name recognition outside his native Georgia. But the decision by America's quirky Libertarian Party to pick Barr as its presidential candidate means trouble for McCain. Barr famously licked whipped cream off the breasts of two women at a charity event while running for Congress in 1994. Later on he managed Bill Clinton's impeachment. The twice divorced, former four-term congressman returned to the public eye in another smutty episode in "Borat."
Now the Republicans would like to write him off as a joke candidate who will not get more than the party's usual 400,000 votes in November, but a surprisingly high number of voters - 10-20% - say they are “libertarians.” The Libertarians have the capacity to ruin things for the Republicans in November; think Ross Perot, who ensured Bill Clinton's election in 1992 and again 1996, splitting the Republican vote and getting 18.9% and 8.4% respectively. Barr expects to do well in Georgia as well as Colorado and other western states where the Libertarians are entrenched. He is worth watching.

Following is AN OPEN LETTER TO SENATOR OBAMA. You are welcome to distribute it for the good it may bring. This N.A.U. issue is rapidly moving forward in a stealth mode and unless the American public becomes aware of the seriousness accompanying it, they will be blind sided in the years following the 2010 "lock in" target date.

RE: A campaign issue that could win the presidency
Dear Senator Obama,
In your bid to be President, YOU HAVE SAID NOTHING about the North American Union (SPP.GOV). Hopefully you are aware that this is a “business deal” put into place by President Bush in concert with his close friend and confidant, former president of Mexico, Vicente Fox. It was agreed to with much less enthusiasm by former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, Jr.
Finalization of this clandestinely undertaken business deal was orally solidified at the Bush ranch in 2005. It was never debated before the legislature or made known to the American citizens. Subsequently, we learned of plans to construct a Super Highway project, in which thousands of privately owned acres of tax payer property will be confiscated (under the cleverly initiated Kelo vs New London Supreme Court ruling - also in 2005) through eminent domain proceedings. Private property is central to the freedom we enjoy as Americans and the North American Union - Trans Texas Corridor “NAFTA Super Highway” deal negates this fundamental and traditional American right to own, retain, safeguard and preserve property that has been in families for, in many cases, generations.
The NAU springs from a process, (quietly - indeed surreptitiously) set in motion by President Bush in 2005, with NO debate or vetting considerations by the legislature thereby completely disenfranchising the American citizens from having any knowledge of or say in the matter. It is tantamount to a virtual coup in surrendering of U.S. sovereignty to a trilateral entity that, in the form of a North American Union, could emulate the European Union that now dictates to the citizens of 27 European states.
Senator Obama, you need to bring a bright light on this matter and alert the American people of your position on preserving U.S. Sovereignty. The N.A.U. is an issue that, if actively denounced in forthcoming campaign messages, could win you the presidency. Your opponents have never brought up this vital issue - - meanwhile the Bush administration is proceeding as thought this privately crafted scheme is a “done deal”.
The American people and I will be watching, listening and waiting to see how you stand on this critical matter.
Sincerely, Conway Chester
P.S. Congressman Ron Paul is a co-sponsor of House Concurrent Resolution 40 expressing Congressional disapproval of the NAFTA Superhighway and any moves toward a North American Union. So far, Senator Obama, you are NOT listed among the 48 who are COSPONSORS of this bill. Why not? Advocating could win the election for you! Congressman Paul has also introduced H.R. 5191, which would prohibit the use of federal funds to carry out these highway projects. This is added legislation you could back, Senator, to show your unabated support for the sovereignty, independence and freedom of America.

The world will little note nor long remember any third party candidates place in the American election process. That is a sad pronouncement, but true none the less. Anyone who feels that it's not true is sadly kidding themselves.
I have longed hoped for a truly viable candidate from a third party. America is and will continue to be committed to a two party system. Neither party has had good candidates for a number of years.
In the primary election, each candidate makes promises and declarations that they full well know they cannot deliver on. But the idea is to tell the voters what they want to hear. Not NEED TO HEAR, but what they want to hear.
Any simply understanding of the political system under which we are governed would quickly show the listener that the are "hollow promises."
Sadly, the chance of a person who would normally be a third party candidate becoming a central figure in either of our two parties is never going to happen. Third party candidates are much more apt to tell the voter what they need to hear. And that does not make for good politics.

Bob Barr will not be McCain's nemesis - Chuck Baldwin, the Constitution Party's presidential candidate will! How? Baldwin will win a plurality of the votes!
Real conservatives have no where else to go - and they sure aren't going to vote for McCain!

Anyone would be better that what the Dems or Republicans have to offer

Or maybe, the Libertarians along with McCain and Republicans have the capacity to ruin things for the Democrats in '08?
Imagine if Bob Barr were to pull 4 to 5% of the vote, and McCain still wins.
What signal does that send to the liberal media? That Americans really do hate big government.
For Bob Barr, and For John McCain.

I don't think that Barr is worth watching, although the idea he will syphon off some of the vote for McCain is plausible.
In the bigger picture, McCain is consistently losing 25% - 35% of the vote in Republican Primaries (yes, there are still Republican Primaries) - and he's the winner.
Much more fun is the conservative gnashing of teeth over their failure. Barr is just another symptom of this. Social conservatives had their time in 2000. For one brief sojourn in utter unreality their philosophy of curruption, prejudice and xenophobia actually had a voice.
Bush hasn't done in the Republican party. It's the vitriolic beliefs of American conservatives he put into practice.
A platform since adopted by McCain because it's the only constituency too dumb not to realize the Republican times are over.
So it's back to the wackos like Barr for those who think a good whuppin' is good social policy.
Unfortunately, those of us who want America returned from the abyss conservatives have dug us into are almost equally handicapped by a Democratic party relentlessy campaigning against itself.
Maybe this will be the first time ever that a write-in candidate will win.

I can't wait to vote for Bob Barr in the fall. He is the ONLY conservative candidate in the race.

McCain should drop out of the race so he doesn't spoil it for Bob Barr.

I snicker every time I hear about Barr spelling trouble for McCain in November. Not because the LP is a joke, but rather because of the idea of a lout like McCain having a snowball's chance. I urge all people of conscience to show their rejection of Big Gov't Republicans by voting for someone who would actually try to rein in federal spending.
By signifying that he feels that W's support for an American Empire is tepid by his standards, McCain turned off about 65% of the electorate. Do the math, folks...Why waste your vote trying to defeat the dem's by casting your ballot for someone that neither supports your values nor has the ability to win?
I'll vote for someone that espouses my beliefs, even though he won't win. We can thank Bush for creating this morass that ensures a Democratic President for the next 4 years. Maybe, if the GOP takes a good rap on the snout this year, they'll get their act together and run a candidate in 2012 that isn't a jingoistic megalomaniac.

For those of you who say a vote for Bob Barr will ensure an Obama victory, I say you better choose between your two choices, Bob Barr, or Obama.

Thanks for the great music video. I am sure Bob will appreciate the weight of the message it will convey on find outlets like MTV and VH1. More please. -- Stephen Gordon, Communications Director
PS: Any video of Bob scarfing that whipped creme would be appreciated. Perhaps a reenactment?

Every election year I want to vote for the libertarian candidate as they generally better reflect my political views but they always seem to attract the "characters" and I can never do it. Remember Stan Jones who ran for senate a few years ago as a Libertarian? He is the one who turned himself blue taking colloidal silver.
Bob Barr's trashy exploits aren't much better.

What is his stand on illegal aliens?
What is his plan for the war in Iraq?
What is his plan to bring the economy back?
How does he plan to deal with the environment
and energy?
More later.

Congressman Barr has something that very few 3rd
party presidential candidates have.
He appears to have the personal characteristics needed
to actually sit in the White House and do the job.
As time goes on, more and more people should see that.
I hope he makes a huge splash. Don't care whether
he spoils it for either of the big guys.
