After Hillary Clinton's campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle was brutally and publicly let go in the middle of the primary campaign, you might think that she would have a received a phone call from her boss of 17 years thanking her for her efforts in keeping her campaign on the road. Not so.
Solis Doyle who was first hired as a scheduler by the future first lady had little to prepare her for the task of leading a $200 million presidential campaign with nearly 1,000 employees. But her big mistake was not telling the boss to her face when the campaign was bankrupt.
Now the Obama campaign has come to the rescue with a serious appointment as "chief of staff to the vice presidential candidate."
This is an astute move as it both signals that Hillary is not going to be offered the Vice Presidential slot on the Obama ticket and it brings a prominent Hispanic onto the Obama campaign team. Solis Doyle, who is from Chicago, has long been admired by Obama's top adviser David Axelrod.
Jason Horowitz over at the New York Observer reports said this of the appointment:
"A former bundler (fundraiser) to Hillary Clinton just called in to tell me that Barack Obama's selection of Patti Solis Doyle as chief of staff to the campaign's eventual vice presidential nominee is the 'biggest fuck you I have ever seen in politics.'"
