And as a footnote just to remove any lingering doubt of Mark E's fabricated fantasy that he speaks for most Americans in the belief that they do NOT agree with engaging Iran.
Sorry Mark E, but the Internet is the Great Equalizer by laying to waste individuals that attempt to spread misinformation by way of false propaganda. Attempting to call out a foreign journalist (who is apparently far more informed on the issues of your native country) on the basis of your fairy tale of what most Americans believe simply will not hold up to scrutiny, and makes any objective reader of your posts, past or future, inclined to dismiss your opinions outright as the negligible credibility that you brought upon yourself is wont to do. If this is an attempt by you to promote conservative ideology, then I think the other side would tell you that discrediting yourself was a job well done and to keep up the good work.
Please disregard the uninformed ignorance on display by the poster 'Mark E'. His lack of historical education and apparent lack of general intellect makes his opinion easy to dismiss as a sore, downtrodden, reactionary.
As an American, and one that has followed the polls, most Americans do believe in diplomatic engagement with countries like Iran and Syria. Every US president until bush has always negotiated, back channel or otherwise, with 'enemy' regimes. Even the right's vaunted hero Reagan did so contrary to his public rhetoric in his nadir of hypocrisy 'arms for hostages' deal with Iran. Bush is the first president that has had a policy of non negotiation unless the other side agrees first to terms, and let's look no further than the empirical evidence of his utter failure in foreign policy due to such self defeatist protocols.
The problem with posters like Mark E is that they aren't intelligent enough to realize that meeting with leaders of uncooperative regimes does not equate with capitulation to their demands. In fact it actually shows foreign policy savvy by expanding the number of options 'on the table' so to speak in dealing with perceived 'hostile' regimes. Such nuances are obviously beyond the mental reach of those like Mark E, who can only spout right wing talking points of issues far more complex than he is capable of thinking through on his own. It's those like him that pose the greatest threat to America's future progress. The dumbed down masses of the Mark E's of America are what threatens to leave our country in ruin. The rest of us can only hope that his type remains in the minority.

Leonard,
I know you are a liberal and of course want Obama but most Americans do NOT agree with his idea to meet with the president of Iran. It's one of his points of weakness. Your domestic audience may not know that but being on the internet and being exposed to people in the U.S. we have to call you out on your fallacy. Nice use of scare words on Bush too, real subtle.
