The Daily Show strikes again
A few weeks back it was claimed Jon Stewart and his satirical news programme The Daily Show was the most trusted voice in American news. A brilliant segment from Wednesday's show highlights why.
In it, with some brilliant use of archive footage, they turn their withering eye on the contrast between what Republicans have been saying in defence of Sarah Palin and what they have said in the past about Democratic candidate, particularly in relation to her experience and gender. It makes for some hilarious viewing. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it here..
This use of contrasting news footage is one of the best tricks in the Daily Show's playbook. Here's another great example from the archives - in it they create a debate between George Bush in his first term as president and George Bush in his second term. Take a look...

lol... The Daily Show is soo funny!

Does anybody in the mainstream US media ever follow up on these clips? Even if you don't like JS and his style, these video clips are showing blatant doublestandards. Our these people ever chased up over this?

You really think that was made up? Conspiracy of the democrats? Jon must have paid them to say those things. The truth hurts.

ShameOnYou, you need to scroll down and reread the post. The phrase was "with facts" not "and facts". Big difference, very big difference!

The daily show drew gasps instead of laughs when they mocked Obama worship, prior to the conventions. Of course the writers are more democrat than republican, just as 90% of comedy is supplied by people who can more easily spot the hypocrisy and greed of the right wingers - worldwide.
What separates the daily show from any of the mainstream GOP worshipping "news" and current affairs shows - is
a) it is actually funny, and
b) it reflects human intelligence and emotion of a less selfish and more reflective kind than any right winger ever seems to manage.
PJ O Rourke is the only right winger I can think of who has ever actually held his own in a "funniness debate".

The "Educated Voter", presumably a conservative by the nature of his/her statements said [intelligent people can make up their own minds and *facts*].
I had no idea you could make up a fact. Wow!

Although I think the JS presentation CAN be a little histrionic, I can remember he is sort of working from a script which writers provide him, so he is merely delivering his lines and does so with aplomb!
In any case, the material he presents is indeed an apropos response to the sanctimonious climate of greed & hypocrisy almost constantly flubbering from the GOP like sounds from wet bowels, the material is also au courant and penetrates the sludge of the torporheaded analysis offered on the wonkcrap network talk shows elsewhere, it is au fait, and a deliciously irreverant bete noir if just in that 'soi disant' kind of way. Pardon my French, I'm just having a lark, heh heh.
Anyhow I do beg to differ with the opinion of the FernLys person, no offense: the cynical comic relief offered on both the JS show and the Colbert show break the iron maiden of the trusty but thick and underinformed electorate imprisoning said 'intelligence', frees it with a laugh and does more to instill ideas outside the box than any other shows on TV...
One of the funniest if painfully awkward events in recent history was when someone chose Stephen Colbert to Roast GWB a few years ago, thinking--well, what WERE they thinking to make such a phenomenal error?

You're absolutely right, FernLys Horvath. The people who vote have more intelligence than to ignore explicit hypocracy by a political party for personal gain as opposed to the betterment of America. That's why Obama is leading on all American polls.

Jon Stewart believes his Witty? Trash Talk helps demean the Republican Candidates - this isn't convincing and isn't working -the reality is people who vote have more intelligence than that - they can make up their own minds with facts
